Exploring Fredericton: Where to Drink

NASH 79 is almost upon us, and as much as we know you are excited for sessions and panels, we also know you are looking forward to socializing with your fellow student journalists. We’ve put together a list with a few spots and drinks that are worth checking out, and whether you are looking for ginger ale or something a little stronger, we’ve got you covered.

Just an FYI - drinking age in New Brunswick is 19, and beer and liquor sales are run through Alcool New Brunswick Liquor (ANBL). That said, you can grab a bottle of wine at many grocery stores or pick up beer directly from a microbrewery, which often has later hours.

ANBL York St.

380 York Street

This converted train station is the closest liquor store to the hotel. You’ll find most of your standard fare here, no surprises.

Picaroons Brewtique

422 Queen Street

Just a short walk from the hotel, the Brewtique is the place to grab a Growler or case of Fredericton’s most well-known craft beer.

Gray Stone Brewing

221 King Street

Another craft beer outlet, Gray Stone offers a few beers of their own, plus 18 other craft beers from the region.

Red Rover Ciderhouse

546 Queen Street

Grab a bottle of New Brunswick Craft cider here - or take home a flagon.

Sussex Golden Ginger Ale

Bottled in Sussex, NB, this is the best ginger ale you will ever have. We’re not joking. Available in most grocery stores - look for the golden label.

Boyce Farmers Market

Among other things, the Saturday farmers market is known for it’s variety of fresh juices. Whether you are looking for local apple cider or some freshly squeezed OJ, this is a great spot to get something healthy vitamins into you.

Craft Beer

For a province of 753,000, New Brunswick punches well above its weight in the craft beer market. If you’re at a pub, or at the ANBL, keep an eye out for these made-in-NB beers.
